An epidural blood patch is the procedure of choice to treat cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. When the site of a leak is known, such as when the leak was developed after a procedure such as a lumbar puncture, the procedure can be performed at the site of the known leak. Otherwise, epidural blood patches can be performed empirically in the hopes that the patient will improve.
